Dr. Fely CurvaFely Curva, Ph.D., is principal partner at Curva and Associates, a private consulting firm, located in Tallahassee. Her specialties include legislative policy, prevention and intervention programs, art education, museum programs, and health and human services. Her areas of technical expertise include research and evaluation, lobbying and advocacy, grant writing, staff development and training.
Dr. Curva served as a Legislative Analyst with the Florida House of Representatives for five years with responsibilities for legislation relating to aging, adult services, mental health and substance abuse. She has authored numerous publications and reports.
Curva and Associates provides legislative advocacy and lobbying activities. They have represented clients in issues related to education, nutrition, mental health. insurance, aging, persons with disabilities, children's health insurance, and social welfare. Their clients have included the Clearinghouse on Human Services (an advocacy organization that brings to bear some 150 health, human services, and educational organizations on current legislative issues), Florida IMPACT (an organization that advocates for nutrition and social welfare programs); The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc.; The Florida Alliance for the Mentally Ill (FAMI), among others. In 2005, Curva and Associates and Florida Impact worked successfully towards passage of the statewide Summer Food Nutrition Program (HB 227/SB 752), a law that brings federal food programs to children when school is out in the summer.
Curva and Associates has also been conducting research and evaluation activities in the field of prevention and school-based health education programs for the past 10 years. They have served as lead evaluators for several statewide health education programs including: Sports for Life; Artful Truth -Healthy Propaganda Arts Project, developed by The Wolfsonian Museum at Florida International University; The American Heart Association Youth Fitness and Tobacco Education Prevention Program; and The Minority Tobacco Control Project.
Dr. Curva received her Ph.D. from the Florida State University, Department in Reading and Multilingual/Multicultural Education; a Masters of Science degree in Education and Research and Evaluation; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Valdosta State College.
